Teddy’s Law Could Pave the Way for Second Chances in the Lives of Lab-Tested Animals
Imagine a world where lab-tested animals get a second chance at life, where their journey doesn’t end in a sterile laboratory but continues in the loving arms of a forever family. Teddy’s Law, introduced in the Michigan Legislature, aims to transform this dream into a reality. Sponsored by Senator Polehanki and Senator Hertel, this legislation requires research facilities to offer dogs or cats no longer used in research to registered animal shelters located in Michigan for adoption, unless euthanizing the animal is required for...

But today, the Miami cave crayfish (Procambarus milleri) is...
Seal Pup Curls Up For Nap On Porch Of New Zealand Home
Kekeno are the most common seals in New Zealand with roughly 200,000 living along the coasts. They are often seen on the rocky shores but rarely on the front porch of a home. New Zealand’s Department of Conservation (DOC) states, “Seals are very good swimmers and weaned pups will sometimes travel great distances. On land seals have been found in unusual places such as backyards, drains and streets.” A Wellington family returned home to find a young fur seal napping on their porch. While this may seem odd, DOC shared,...

Does Your Dog Really Have Separation Anxiety?
Understanding the differences between separation anxiety and separation-related behaviors will help with the diagnosis and treatment of an affected dog. The term “separation anxiety” is more widely known now than ever before. During the pandemic, lockdowns and work-from-home mandates hugely increased the number of dogs no longer left home alone on a regular basis. Add to this the equally large number of dogs that were adopted during the pandemic but never introduced to being alone because of the circumstances. When people resumed...
