Often, unexpected interactions happen, and friendships are built. Animals who are often not seen together get curious about one another and try to observe their neighbor and form the oddest relationship. Photo: Youtube/NowThis News In Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo, an otter was found making friends with an ape. They were in a shared habitat that was built for an exhibit...

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Proposes Endangered Species Act Listing for Declining Bat Species
Bats may not always get a second thought, but they’re more important than people may think. These pollinators disperse seeds and eat many of the pests that kill crops. In fact, their pest control saves U.S. food growers more than $3 billion each year. A particular bat species, though, is seeing sharply declining numbers, and federal officials are trying to take steps to save it. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service has officially proposed listing the tricolored bat as endangered under the Endangered Species Act. They say this is...

Funding for Animal & Environmental Causes Has Grown by $10 Billion in 10 Years
A report finds more donors giving more money to animal and environmental causes—though this funding is still just 3.4% of total giving. We spoke with author Jamie DeLeeuw about what she found, and what it means for the public and animal orgs. Over the last decade, funding for animal and environmental causes has grown by $10 billion—from $6.15 billion in 2010 to $16.14 billion in 2020. But it’s still just 3.4% of total giving.
