Investigation Finds Facebook Awash In Staged (But Lucrative) “Rescue” Videos

Most people are outraged by instances of animal cruelty, and rightly so! But as it turns out, companies are manipulating our outrage by staging fake rescue videos to just get some extra clicks. In addition to cynically manipulating our emotions, these staged “rescue” videos are putting animals at risk. This unsettling practice came to light following an investigation with an animal welfare organization, Lady Freethinker, which found staged rescue videos had become a lucrative practice on both YouTube and Facebook. Sasha’s Journey

This story was originally shared on The Animal Rescue Site. Submit your own rescue story here. Your story just might be the next to be featured on our blog! I was one who rescued dogs from local shelters, helping one shelter weekly in finding homes for dogs. One dog out, five more in. A never ending battle in city shelters. I received a phone call from the animal shelter that yet another dog came in. I drove the 45-minute trip as I did weekly. I remember walking in, as it was a normal tour of the weekly dogs that were found, and I saw her....

Pit Bull Receives Medal From El Paso Fire Department For Saving Owner’s Life

Astro, a one-year-old rescue pit bull, is being hailed a hero after saving his owner’s life. The incident took place last week when Astro’s owner suffered a medical emergency and needed help. The intelligent dog alerted a passerby who followed him and called for help. “The 911 caller reported that a dog led him to the patient in need. This, of course, got a lot of attention. And the crews did confirm when they found the patient, there was a dog protecting his owner,” El Paso Fire Department spokesman Enrique...

4-Year-Old Boy Picks Up Trash To Help Animals

Children are our future, and if they are anything like Niklaus Reilly, the world is going to be a great place for animals. The 4-year-old boy from North Kingstown, Rhode Island, loves animals – just like his mom, Amanda Nelson. Nelson works at an animal shelter and has seen firsthand how dangerous trash can be to wildlife. She decided it was time to teach her young son not to litter. The movements of wolf packs can be tracked with precision today in a way that generations of scientists and naturalists never could accomplish on their own. in the springtime, for example, the wolves had long proven elusive. She came to me because her people had moved away. I fed her at the door, and she came in. The neighborhood kids had been kicking her because she was a black cat, and she was fearful of men. She would growl whenever she saw pant legs near her. Midnight was an indoor/outdoor cat. She would follow us everywhere. She would follow us to the local diner and wait in the bushes to accompany us...

A Love Letter From Tommy Bahama, The “Devil Cat”

This story was originally shared on The Animal Rescue Site. Submit your own rescue story here. Your story just might be the next to be featured on our blog! For 12 years, I was passed to 3 different parents on a small island in the Bahamas. When the last “Mom” moved in with her boyfriend and a d-o-g, I’d had enough. I decided I’d rather live under the old house and take my chances. I did this for 3 long years. I survived the heat, cold, torrential rain–even hurricanes. And I’d get lonely and go out to the...

Tiny Terriers Chase Away A Bear Who Broke Into Their Home

Deedee Mueller’s Pasadena, California home was the site of an alarming breaking and entering case recently. However, it wasn’t a human who broke into her home – it was a bear! To be fair to the bear who broke in, they did not have to compromise the exterior of the house at all. Mueller left a door open in the kitchen and the bear just strolled right in. The incident was caught on security footage, and luckily for this woman, her terriers (who are named Squirt and Mei Mei) decided that they were not going to let an intruder...
