The little pug’s name was Miss Kitty. She belonged to a man who wanted to go into treatment, “but the one big barrier to him getting the support he needed was making sure that his dog was cared for,” says Shannon Glenn, executive director of My Pit Bull Is Family, which created the North Minneapolis Pet Resource Center, a pet pantry in Minnesota. Miss Kitty His mother, who Shannon calls J, wanted to help—she wanted her son to get well, and she wanted to help him do that by caring for Miss Kitty. She just wasn’t...
A Rescuer Bids Farewell to a Baby Monkey Before Its Return To The Wild
Danger lurks for animals in the wild, even when it’s their natural habitat. It’s most especially perilous for babies who were abandoned or separated from their parents. They’ll be needing supervision and someone who can teach them survival skills in the wild as they grow up. Thankfully, authorities and nonprofit organizations have established rehabilitation centers for rescued animals. The center serves as their temporary sanctuary during recovery and further growth. Those organizations prioritize the animal’s welfare...
An Elephant Momentarily Causes Traffic As It Blocks the Road for a Crossing Calf
There are reasons why elephants are portrayed as sweet and friendly in films. And it’s because they actually do possess those personalities — the giant mammal is soft-hearted and caring towards their loved ones. Their height might intimidate you, but humans can build friendships with elephants like they are long-lost soulmates. They can even remember their caretakers from back when they were young. Apart from recognizing genuine care, elephants are also capable of communication. Whenever they need help, the friendly giant will do...

Photo: YouTube/Stray Rescue of St.Louis Official The stray dog, who they named Marianne Clare, was wandering the streets when the rescue was called. Team members managed to track her down to an abandoned, run-down house, where she seemingly had been hanging out and calling...
Separated for Nearly a Year, a Young Afghan Refugee Was Happily Reunited with Her Dog
Parting may be thought of as such “sweet sorrow” but reuniting is EVERYTHING! That was the case for a young woman in British Colombia that had fled Afghanistan the year before due to her work as a social activist fighting for women’s rights. The worst part of all this upheaval? Having to say goodbye to her dog, Lucky, and cat, Leo, so that they might leave the country safely on an international rescue transport for pets. Faithful Dog Refuses To Leave Owner Even After He’s Taken To The Hospital
If there’s one thing we know about dogs, it’s the fact that they are as loyal as the day is long. We count on them for their loyalty and the love they show to us. That is why we weren’t surprised to hear about a loyal dog named Magnus. When his human, Brian Benson, went into the hospital, Magnus did something that was above and beyond. Photo: Instagram/@magnusthetherpaydog As shared on Instagram, Benson was having a difficult time breathing and went to the ER. They kept them for three nights, trying to determine what was...
Kitten Rescued Just Before Hurricane Hits
This story was originally shared on The Animal Rescue Site. Submit your own rescue story here. Your story just might be the next to be featured on our blog! My husband and I both knew we wanted a cat, and not even 12 hours after we talked about it, a little white cat about 5-weeks-old showed up on our street. It was crying so loud for such a tiny body. We had no cat food, so we put out water and milk and put “cat food” on the grocery list for that afternoon. Later that day as I pulled into our lot, I saw he made himself a comfy...
Love Story: Lonely Goose Whose Mate Died Finds a Match on Social Media

During their time as a unit, they were particularly fond of a pond there, where they predominantly hung out. Will You Give Me a Forever Home? Stray Cat with Broken Jaw and Inflamed Eye Rescued by Caring Humans
“How can you tell a stray from a feral cat? Lost or abandoned felines are usually comfortable around people and will frequently attempt to live near humans — under porches, or in garages, sheds, or backyards,” according to WebMD. Yes, aside from feral cats, stray cats are a huge problem in society. After the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have either abandoned or returned their pets to the shelter including cats and kittens. Today, there are about 70 million stray cats in the United States of America alone....

Popular Heritage Chickens That Lay Beautifully Colored Eggs
You typically have two choices when you go to the grocery store to buy eggs. You can either get white eggs or brown eggs. Limited egg choices seem perfectly normal to most people, but did you realize that eggs come in a variety of colors? I’m not talking about Easter eggs that have been painted. I’m talking about beautiful colored eggs that are laid that color. Photo: Unsplash/Kelly Neil It’s not out of the question to find some blue eggs in the nest or even green and red. Avian Flu Outbreak Detected in Canadian Harbor Seals for the First Time
The recent outbreak of avian flu in Canada’s harbor seals is a cause for concern for marine life in the region. This is the first known case in Canada of bird-to-marine mammal transmission, and coincides with outbreaks in seals reported in Europe and the eastern United States, including recently in Maine. It could have serious implications for the region’s wildlife, according to Fisheries and Oceans Canada....

However, science also tells us that not all bonds are created equal. The kind and quality of attachment relationship shared can...

New Facial Recognition App for Finding Lost Pets is Reportedly 99 Percent Accurate
While it should not be used as a replacement for microchipping pets, a new app has hit the market that would allow users to ID their fur babies via facial recognition if they’ve slipped their collars and accompanying tags. Techies will surely love the idea, but those with privacy concerns will likely hate it. If you land somewhere in the middle of the debate, just remember that anyone suggesting it can or should replace microchipping at this point should think again. Unless your pooch’s face is available in real-time or it’s...
